Info For Guests

House Access

The house and laundry room are secured by smart locks; we will send you the code prior to check-in. To unlock the lock, simply key in your code. Keying in your code when the door is unlocked will lock it. You can also press the “lock” button in the lower right corner of the keypad to lock the door quickly. There is also a smart doorbell, which connects to us and will also chime softly within the house.

Parking

The driveway has room two cars, parked side-by-side, and potentially a third in the driveway if the others are blocked in. Per Sea Ranch rules, we ask that you do not street park your car(s).

Internet

Free Wifi is provided, using SSID 305_Halcyon and password H@lcyonHH.

Garbage and Recycling

Recycling and garbage bins can be found on the far side of the garage, and there are cans throughout the house. We would appreciate it if you empty any full cans from the house into the bins throughout your stay. Garbage day is Monday, and we have walk-up service, so if you’re staying with us on a Monday, don’t be alarmed if you see the collectors walking up to the garage.

Household trash goes in the large plastic bin. Please secure the top by closing the side latches and stretching the rubber holders on the top to keep it shut. Plastic and paper recycling go in the smaller can: just put them both in together. (Unfortunately, we don’t have a composting solution.)

Fire Safety

Sea Ranch is very vulnerable to wildfires, and fires in Northern California are a serious issue. So, unfortunately, smokers are out of luck here. We don’t allow smoking in the house or on the grounds, and Sea Ranch does not allow smoking or campfires on the trails.

Because we are surrounded by trees and dry grass, we don’t allow campfires or barbecuing on the grounds.

TV

There is a TV in the second bedroom downstairs. There is no direct broadcast or cable service, but the TV has apps such as Netflix, Apple TV, and Prime Video that you can log into and use if you have an account.

Heating

Each bedroom, and the living room, has its own thermostat, which controls the heat for that room only. In the bedrooms, this is done via electric baseboard units. These do get hot; please do not cover them with clothing, and please avoid touching them when they’re turned on. In the living room, the thermostat controls the gas fireplace.

Laundry

A full-size washer and dryer are in the laundry room across from the entry, for your use. The garage and the storage area behind the gate in the laundry room are not for guests’ use. (There is no treasure in there, just supplies. The actual treasure we buried and you will never find it.)

Spa/Hot Tub

The spa on the rear patio is a delight. We especially enjoy star-gazing from the spa under clear skies. Please be careful when using it though, and please assure that children are kept safely away from it unless supervised closely by adults. The rear door to the spa and the outside gate to the spa must always be closed when children are present!

The water temperature for the spa can be set anywhere between 80 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit. (Do not enter the spa if the temperature shown is higher than 104 degrees.) Please leave the temperature at 102 when you leave.

In addition, please observe the following health and safety rules:

  • Everyone should shower with soap and water before entering the spa.
  • Remove the spa cover entirely while using the spa. Please don’t sit or lie down on the spa cover and never allow your children to do so.
  • Do not bring glass in or near the spa.
  • Enter and exit the spa slowly and only via the provided steps. No jumping or diving.
  • Guests who are elderly; pregnant; or have heart disease, high or low blood pressure, or any serious illness must consult with a physician before using the spa.
  • Children in and around the spa must be supervised by an adult.
  • Guests must not be under the influence of alcohol, narcotics, or medications while using the spa or while supervising children in the vicinity of the spa.
  • Do not use soaps or oils in the spa.

Each time you finish using the spa, please turn off the internal spa lights and jets and replace the spa cover.

The metal chairs on the patio take seat cushions: these are stored in the main bedroom closet.

Pets

We are happy to host dogs; we unfortunately cannot host cats, due to severe allergies within our family. We will accept birds on a case-by-case basis, depending on whether or not they can talk. Ferrets and rodents are strictly forbidden. Pigs and (non-service) horses are unfortunately not permitted due to potential hooves issues. For the love of God, don’t bring snakes up here. Spiders are a hard no. A couple of requests:

  • Please keep pets off the furniture
  • The yard is unfenced; please don’t let your pups roam unleashed, as they may end up in a neighbor’s yard, public space, or running into one of our wildlife friends
  • Please make sure to pick up after your dogs; there are extra waste bags in the upstairs pantry if needed
  • If you take your pups on a walk, they must be on leash (maximum 6 feet long) at all times (Sea Ranch rules)

There is a dog park (with parking) about ¾ of a mile down Deer Trail, just above the highway.
